Through balls

Post by heerenveen123 » 6 years ago

Hey, has anyone found a reliable way to stop the through ball w***ers playing? I just played some guy called Maverick 1302 and he had a 7-1-2 formation (no, really) and as a result, was difficult to break down. But the moment he got the ball back (literally, after his first touch) he just through balled it to Van Der Mirch and Martins. No passing or dribbling. Really pissed me off since I always pass and move.

I anticipated his lack of intelligence before the match by man-marking both of them with my full backs, since they had pace, AND my centre backs, since they had had strength. Yet with every ball over the top or on the ground he could always get away without and stumble animation or being caught up by my full backs. I think he won 4-1. But it was like I couldn't stop him because he would through-ball it before I got a chance to drop deep or play him offside.

Anyone have any other tips/advice on stopping this? Should I use a sweeper?

Not sure if it was the same guy, but I've played some one similar who had Walcott and Martins up front and then had everyone else in defence. He even had an out field player in goal (due to a squad f'uk obviously). Think he won 3-2. I just couldn't get close enough (except for the 2 I scored). It drove me mad to lose a game like that.

But anyway, I struggle with the through ball. I can't fully complain because I also use the through ball, but not in the way that some do from the defence. I have tried man marking etc but I think you've just got to be on your toes. I just try to take control of my CB before he makes the pass, so I can get a few yards head start.

This will make me sound pathetic but when playing MLO I concede from the kick off quite regulary. They pass it back to the midfield then hit a quick through ball and then they are in 1on1. It drives me f'ing mad. Especially if I have just taken the lead with a hard earned goal and then concede from kick off.

Yeah I've that guy who does it from kick off, with Martins and Walcott. Although I only lost 2-1, this was with Andy Carroll lol
I don't understand the fun in doing this, I find it boring to do and boring to play against. These people can't have any right to complain that there is not enough people on PES or that the servers are crap, they are the ones messing up PES online

People like that aren't even worth getting upset about. Clearly their entire life revolves around winning a video game. It's not about PES or simulating a fun, competitive game of football. It's all about exploits and their own sad attempts to boost their ego.

But yeah, they do ruin MLO. And pretty much every other online game they get their hands on.

Yeah spot on. Kinda like the equivalent of people who camp around objectives in BF/CoD. Not really there for the team/game, just want to get points.

I try not to get upset about it, what I normally do when people mess up games like this is patronise them/make them feel stupid as they actually are. Personally, I find the riot shield is of the best ways to make people feel stupid.

But it's quite difficult to do this in PES, which is why I can only play MLO for 3/4 games.

PES would be much better with riot shields, just saying...

It's not exactly exploiting anything. It's a real life occurrence in football. It's obviously a huge part of the game since it even has its very own button dedicated for it.

However it might be slightly overdone by Konami. But good thing there is a way to fix it without Konami having to revamp the whole game. Go manual, drop all the pass-assisted ping-pong passes altogether. Then you'll get the risks you should get with such hard and long passes.

I guess if I go full manual and then select 'Similar level' for pass support requirements I'll be less likely to come across one of the douchebags.

I understand it's a real-life thing, it just seems the repetitive manner in which it occurs seems ridiculous. I remember it happened a few times for Liverpool when Torres still played for us, Gerrard always got the assist. But it didn't work every time.

Does anyone put defensive line down to 0? Does it help or hinder, I haven't tried it yet.

I also do the foul from kick off thing after scoring. Either that or pick a CB straight away and drop back and use X button to pressure the passer.

I've found the defensive line doesn't make any difference. The CBs will always stay close to the CF. It's not as if the CBs sit on the edge of the box.

Like the idea of fouling from kick off. lol

Since I signed N'koulou, I tend to deal with the through ball a lot better.

Yeah I recently started doing both of those, the latter of which is very effective if you get it right. I've tried leaving 'Offside trap' on and it seemed to work the first few times but then it started to fail when he would clear it from deep and my CB's were on the half way line. Also, fullbacks can f*** everything up.

I think I'll try playing a sweeper next time I'm online, maybe someone with pace like Onuoha (if I can afford him), see how it goes.
